Sales Seminar Presentation

I am preparing my next project for Toastmasters: The Sales Seminar. The idea is to teach salesmen how do a better job at sales. Right now I am gather material for this speech.

The overall framework is going to be "mythbusters", busting common sales myths and misconceptions. Sone I will be addressing for sure is "The customer is always right". and "The lowest price gets the sale". I need others, any ideas would be welcome.

I am also going to mix in some experiences as a missionary. Although sales an missionary work are fundamentally different, there are some areas of overlap that will me to use some ancetdotes. What I need are some other ancedotes.

So here is what I am researching:
* Sales myths
* Good sales techniques
* Stories to use as examples of both of the above.

If you have any of the above, post a comment. Thanks

A review of various Milky Way myths that can be used as an introduction to whta myths are.

Here are some of the list of sales myths I have found:
* THE MYTHS OF SELLING
Here are my seven myths of competitive selling. I discovered them the hard way, and I pass them on in the hope that readers can benefit from my mistakes.
* 3 Marketing Myths that are Stopping you Succeed!
These 3 marketing myths can cause you to lose sales if you base your marketing decisions on them. We've given you some marketing tips to blast each myth and boost your sales.
* The Myth About Price
I will never dispute that price is a factor in every sale. However, it is seldom the primary factor. If price was the only reason people bought goods and services, high-end boutiques and companies that sell premium products would not exist.

MyEclipse Spring Tools :: MyEclipse

I have been using Spring Framework and Eclipse for a while now. Eclipse reported a bunch of errors due to not having all the beans defined in a single XML file. The new MyEclipse supports Config Sets so you can tell it all the xml files that go together. Yo get to it from the project prooperties -- MyEclipse-Spring.

MyEclipse Spring Tools :: MyEclipse: "MyEclipse 4.0 introduced support for Spring Project Capabilities based on Spring Framework 1.2.3 and an enhanced version of Spring IDE 1.2.2. The key features include:

* New 'Add Spring Capabilities' wizard
* Spring Framework 1.2.3 and all dependent libraries are shipped to support the 'Add Spring Capabilities' process
* MyEclipse Spring Libraries
* Enhanced Spring IDE features:
o Bean View
o Bean Graph View
o Integrated MyEclipse XML editor default bean configuration editor
o Bean file validation

Mayan underworld proves researchers' dream - Yahoo! News

Mayan underworld proves researchers' dream - Yahoo! News: "The Yucatan sits on a limestone plateau where rainwater percolates down to nonporous rock below ground. Over millions of years, underground river systems have formed that flow out to the sea through caves.

The region's 7,000 to 8,000 cenotes were formed when caves collapsed in on themselves. The resulting sinkholes became a vital water source and a focus for Mayan sacrifices to honor Chac, the volatile, crocodile-like rain deity.

In recent years, biologists delving into the underlying river systems, which unlike the sinkholes are jet-black because of the lack of sunlight, have identified 40 entirely new species, mostly blind shrimps and fish which have adapted to life in the system's harsh conditions, where dissolved oxygen and food are scarce.

Among the startling discoveries are microorganisms that live in the transitional zone where the fresh water rivers flow out into the Caribbean, and salt-water sponges which may contain anti-tumor compounds.

'Research is at an early stage, but it is quite possible that the bacteria and sponges may have potential biomedical applications including cures for cancer,' Iliffe told Reuters in a telephone interview. 'There is a great deal of scientific excitement about it.'

Other finds made by divers roaming the deep, dark corridors include the bones of giant jungle sloths, rabbits and even mammoths dating back beyond the last Ice Age."

About The Mormons: Update

A while back, I posted an article of a letter to the editor that I found floating around the internet concerning what nice people Mormons or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are. At that time I tried to verify the origin, but couldn't. I posted it anyway because it was nice, even if its origins were in question.

I received a comment asking on the origin and I stated I didn't know but if anyone had any information, that would be great.

Here is what I learned from people who have emailed me:

I found your page when I was searching to verify the Paul Allen letter. thought I would forward you the truth..it's interesting how long something can go around on the web. It's still a great letter, just not from the owner of the Seattle Seahawks.

This is from the Signal website, the daily newspaper from Santa Clarita California.

the-signal.com

Eureka. You have found it.

If you are reading this, you are one of countless thousands of people who want to know about the "Paul Allen letter" — quite possibly the most widely distributed thing in the wild and wacky world of the Web.
Was it that Paul Allen? Did we really publish all the nice things he said about Mormons?
We'll tell you what we know — but before we do, we must ask a huge favor:
Please, please, please. Please do not call or send e-mail to us at The Signal, asking about Paul Allen.
It's not that we don't want to be customer friendly. It's just that in the last six years (yes!), we have received anywhere from five inquiries per week to 10 or more inquiries PER DAY about this, and we simply don't have the staff resources to handle it anymore. Please have mercy. We fervently hope this web page will answer any questions you may have.

OK, here is what we know:

We are The Signal. The Signal is the daily newspaper of Santa Clarita, California (northern Los Angeles County).
We have published Paul Allen's letter(s) to the editor, just as we publish any letter from any other local resident.
Paul Allen is not, and never was, an editor or employee of The Signal newspaper (or, to our knowledge, of any other newspaper). Paul Allen was a local resident who wrote a letter to the editor. Simple as that. We don't know him, and we don't know how to contact him.
This was not the Paul Allen of Microsoft (or the Seattle Seahawks or Portland Trail Blazers). It's simply some person named Paul Allen.
We published the letter in question on Nov. 24, 2000. Yes, it was that long ago.
We do not normally archive letters to the editor on our Web site — but you'll find Paul Allen's letter below.
We have a large and active Mormon community here in the Santa Clarita Valley, with a lot of LDS members holding political office — including Congress — so Paul Allen's letter was not particularly "unusual" to us.

Sincerely,
LEON WORDEN
Opinion and Multimedia Editor
The Signal (Santa Clarita, Calif.)
Webmaster of The-Signal.com, scvleon.com, scvhistory.com and other sites

and another
According to The Santa Clarita Signal's home page, this
editorial was first published November 24, 2000. The
author, Paul Allen is NOT the Paul Allen of Seattle
Seahawks/Portland Trailblazer/Microsoft fame (according to
the-signal.com). They have a lengthy plea to the public to
stop calling/e-mailing them about this letter - after six
years they are still getting as many as 10 calls a day!

Finally, you can read it on the The Signal website. Thanks to all who responded with this information.
