Create your own food drive
Often people at a local level can get their friends and neighbors to donate when they might no otherwise. We tend to not trust strangers when they come around asking for stuff. When we donate, we want the food to reach the right people. We are much more likely to trust a friend and neighbor to do the right thing.People will also donate if it is convenient to do so. We don't have a lot of time. Taking time to figure out who to get the food to and then getting it there just doesn't fit into a busy schedule. On the other hand, if there is someone who makes it easy to donate and then takes care of the hard part of transporting it to the food bank, people like that. People tend to be generous but busy. You can help them to be generous by making it easy.
The girls scouts in my neighbor are hosting a "back to school" drive, collecting items that kids need to go to school. There are so many ways to help and it is wonderful to see all the ways people are choosing to help.
